A young woman survived a fall from a 130-foot bridge in Brazil after workers allegedly failed to secure her bungee rope properly. Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas tragically passed away after being thrown from Skeleton Bridge in Limeira, Sao Paulo state. Shocking video footage captured the moment she was released by the workers without the safety rope attached to her harness, causing her to plummet to the ground.
Despite the horrifying incident, Maria was found alive by a nurse named Rayza Dias, who arrived to provide emergency assistance. Dias mentioned that Maria was still breathing and had a weak pulse. Attempting to comfort her, Dias recalled saying, “Nobody dies on my watch,” despite not being on duty at the time. She affectionately addressed Maria as “Duda,” a Portuguese nickname for Eduarda.
Following the incident, the workers reportedly changed clothes and attempted to flee the scene. However, they were apprehended shortly after by authorities with the help of a helicopter. The individuals involved, Luis Felipe Feliciano Egoroff, Vitor de Freitas Goncalves, and Maicon Fernandes Cintra, were charged with homicide due to negligence. They claimed they couldn’t recall who was responsible for attaching the bungee rope.
Additional arrests were made, including Luis Felipe, who disclosed that safety checks were done collectively. When questioned about the final responsibility, he stated he couldn’t remember. Their lawyer, Rafael Gomes dos Santos, mentioned that the workers were in shock and couldn’t explain the incident as they had been conducting such jumps for years without any mishaps.
Prior to the tragic event, Maria had shared her excitement for the bungee jump on social media. Brazilian MP Andrea Dantas Levy revealed that the company conducting the jumps did not have the necessary authorization for the activity. Investigations into the incident are ongoing to uncover further details surrounding this fatal accident.
