Two individuals, a man and a teenage boy, face charges of attempted murder following an incident in Blyth, Northumberland, where two women in their 30s were hit by a vehicle on Keelmans Terrace. The incident occurred at approximately 1:25 am on Friday, resulting in one woman sustaining severe injuries and being hospitalized in critical condition, while the other woman suffered minor injuries.
Corey Charters, aged 20, and an unnamed 17-year-old boy have been accused of attempted murder in connection with the event near the junction with Beaumont Street. The vehicle involved in the incident fled the scene and was later discovered burnt out in the High Pitt area of Cramlington.
Police, as part of their investigation, arrested three individuals. While Charters and the 17-year-old boy have been charged, a 21-year-old man who was also apprehended has been released on bail. Charters, who has no fixed address, faces additional charges of driving without a valid license and driving without insurance. Both Charters and the teenage boy are scheduled to appear before North Tyneside Magistrates’ Court in North Shields on Thursday.
Northumbria Police is seeking information, including doorbell, CCTV, or dashcam footage, to aid in the ongoing inquiry. Detective Chief Inspector Jason Henry emphasized the importance of the public’s assistance and highlighted the significance of a dark-colored 2007 Honda (SUV) that was reportedly in the vicinity between 1 am and 1:30 am on the day of the incident.
The investigation revealed that the victims had a prior altercation with the occupants of the vehicle on or near Stephen Street before the collision on Keelmans Terrace. The vehicle was later found burnt out in Cramlington, prompting the police to caution against speculation around the case.
