A tragic event unfolded as a young woman passed away shortly after her twin sister initiated a desperate fundraising effort to save her life. Caitlin Leggett, aged 24, received a diagnosis of acute myeloid leukemia last year, with a prognosis of only six months to live. In response, her sister Grace launched a fundraising campaign to gather funds for potential life-saving treatment abroad, raising over £120,000 in donations. Grace left her job in Bristol to be closer to their family in Cardiff.
Unfortunately, just two weeks later, Caitlin experienced a severe brain hemorrhage followed by multiple strokes, leading to a rapid deterioration in her health. Her family shared an update on the fundraising page, informing supporters of the tragic turn of events.
Earlier in the month, Caitlin, hailing from Cardiff, expressed her determination to continue fighting for more time. Despite the challenges, she spoke of her desire to experience life’s milestones and create memories with loved ones, especially with her twin sister.
The discovery of Caitlin’s cancer stemmed from a persistent rash that did not respond to various treatments. Subsequent blood tests in April 2025 revealed acute myeloid leukemia after initial suspicions of a viral infection. Following her diagnosis, Caitlin, a University of Bristol graduate, underwent extensive chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant, putting her dreams of an Army career on hold.
After achieving remission in December, Caitlin faced the devastating news of a cancer relapse in May 2026, with no curative options available within the NHS. Grace, dedicated to supporting her sister, launched the Save Caitlin fundraiser with a goal of raising £500,000 for potential overseas treatment.
Expressing hope for a brighter future, Grace emphasized the importance of raising funds to enable Caitlin to access vital medical care abroad. The sisters’ bond and Caitlin’s unwavering determination to fight for a chance at life have touched the hearts of many.
