“Inmates’ “Nice Doing Business” Remark During Fatal Stabbing Trial”

Date:

During a court hearing, it was revealed that a prisoner reportedly exclaimed “nice doing business with you” to two other inmates after they fatally stabbed Kyle Bevan, a notorious child killer, with “real efficiency.” Bevan, who had murdered his stepdaughter Lola James, was attacked 25 times in his cell at HMP Wakefield in November last year.

Three inmates, Lee Newell, David Taylor, and Mark Fellows, are currently on trial at Leeds Crown Court facing charges of murdering Bevan. Bevan, classified as a vulnerable prisoner, was housed on the fourth floor while the accused were on the second floor of the same wing in the prison.

According to Prosecutor Jason Pitter KC, there was a noticeable increase in interactions among the defendants leading up to Bevan’s death, indicating premeditation. Taylor was reported to have made incriminating comments post-incident, including a statement expressing satisfaction with their actions.

Mr Pitter emphasized the defendants’ prior murder convictions as evidence of their predisposition to such crimes. He urged the jury not to base their decision solely on past offenses but to consider them as supporting evidence in this case.

Detailing the brutal attack, Mr Pitter described the precision with which the crime was carried out, resulting in Bevan being fatally wounded and left in his bed. The prosecutor mentioned that the entire assault took less than five minutes, underscoring the swift and coordinated nature of the attack.

Despite the opportunity to testify, none of the defendants chose to take the stand, leading Mr Pitter to suggest their inability to provide a coherent defense. He highlighted Taylor’s assertion of innocence and reiterated the prosecution’s duty to prove the case beyond doubt.

The trial is ongoing, with further proceedings expected in the coming days.
