Tragedy struck as a 63-year-old British man lost his life in a paragliding incident in northeastern Spain. The fatal accident occurred around 1:20pm local time when the man reportedly got entangled in power lines.
Emergency services, including firefighters and paramedics, swiftly responded to the scene near Palau de Noguera, a quaint historic village close to Tremp in the Catalan province of Lleida. Despite efforts to aid the victim, he succumbed to his critical injuries and was pronounced dead on-site.
The incident, which authorities believe to be accidental, remains under investigation by the local police. It is unclear whether the deceased was a resident of Spain or was paragliding while on holiday.
This unfortunate event follows a similar tragedy in the same region a few weeks prior, where a 68-year-old paraglider lost their life in an unrelated accident.
Authorities, including the Generalitat government, confirmed the sequence of events, stating that the man’s death occurred despite the prompt response of fire crews and medical personnel from the Tremp and Sort stations. The Mossos d’Esquadra police force was also involved in the response efforts.
In a separate incident in July 2023, a British man tragically died in a paragliding accident in Portugal. Following a distress call reporting a paraglider crash near Lisbon, emergency services found the victim in cardiac arrest in a remote area, leading to his unfortunate demise.
The fatal incident in Portugal unfolded in Vale Bom, near the Montejunto Mountains, known for their scenic beauty and as a renowned wine-producing region north of Lisbon.
