The incident occurred when two London-bound trains collided on the midland mainline just south of Bedford shortly after 5pm on Friday, leaving 28 people hospitalized, including nine in critical condition.
British Transport Police (BTP) and the Rail Accident Investigations Branch (RAIB) are conducting a thorough examination of the trains and the railway to ascertain the exact circumstances of the collision.
