A man, Robert Alexander, has been found guilty of murdering his wife, Christina Alexander, after stabbing her 78 times at their residence in Dosthill, Tamworth in June 2025. The court heard that the motive behind the killing was financial gain.
Christina Alexander, a 60-year-old nurse, sustained severe injuries after being repeatedly stabbed in various parts of her body. The trial at Stafford Crown Court revealed that Robert Alexander had a history of violence and threats towards his wife, although he tried to justify his actions as self-defense.
After the brutal attack, Alexander changed his clothes, carried out routine tasks, and then calmly informed the authorities about the murder, citing issues related to money and control. He later confessed to the police, expressing his frustrations about financial matters and his wife dictating his inheritance.
During the trial, Alexander claimed self-defense, alleging that his wife had reached for a knife first. He also cited depression and autism as factors that diminished his responsibility. However, medical experts refuted these claims, stating that his mental health conditions were not severe enough to excuse his actions.
Christina Alexander had been living in fear under the constant threat of violence from her husband, despite being financially dependent on him. She had taken steps to leave the relationship, seeking legal advice and making arrangements to live independently. Tragically, days after a hospital discharge following a previous incident of self-harm by Alexander, he fatally attacked her in the early hours of June 23.
The Crown Prosecution Service highlighted the complexity of the case, emphasizing Alexander’s pattern of controlling behavior and violence. They rejected his claims of self-defense and diminished responsibility, emphasizing that his actions were driven by a desire for control over his wife and finances.
The sentencing for Robert Alexander is pending, with the court yet to decide on a date for the judgment.
