“Prince William’s Net Worth Surpasses King’s, Pays £20M Taxes”

Date:

Prince William has a net worth of £1.2 billion through the Duchy of Cornwall, surpassing the King’s wealth. Since becoming the Prince of Wales, Prince William has paid over £20 million in taxes. The Sovereign Grant accounts recently disclosed this information, shedding light on the financial details of both the royal household and the personal fortunes of the King from the Duchy of Lancaster and the Duchy of Cornwall, which Prince William inherited upon becoming the Prince of Wales.

The figures unveiled for the first time indicate that Prince William, the future king, is wealthier than his father, with a net worth of £1.2 billion via the Duchy. In the latest Duchy accounts, it was revealed that the prince received a private income of £21.6 million in 2025-26.

In contrast, the Sunday Times Rich List listed Charles with a personal fortune of £640 million, showing an increase of £30 million from the previous year. In a move towards transparency regarding the royal family’s funding, both the King and Prince William disclosed their private tax payments. Records show that William contributed £7.76 million in income and capital gains tax in 2024-25 and £8.34 million in 2023-24.

Additionally, it has been revealed that Prince William has chosen to forgo personally benefiting from the controversial £1.5 million annual rent generated by the deserted Dartmoor Prison. Instead, he has requested that the sum be redirected from his Duchy of Cornwall income towards revitalizing the local community.

The duchy had previously leased Dartmoor Prison to the Ministry of Justice for £37 million, resulting in an annual rent of £1.5 million over 25 years. However, due to health concerns related to radon gas, the prison has remained unoccupied since July 2024. A community-led regeneration fund will be established to provide social, economic, and environmental benefits to Princetown, the adjacent rural community affected by the prison closure.

Prince William, as the heir to the throne, is entitled to the annual profits from the extensive billion-pound Duchy landed estate spanning 51,800 hectares across 19 counties. He assumed the title of the 25th Duke of Cornwall nearly four years ago.

Furthermore, Kensington Palace reported an increase in the staff employed by Prince William and his wife Kate, rising from 68 to 74. Diversity figures indicate that 14.9% of staff were from ethnic minority backgrounds, up from 13.2% the previous year, with 73% of the staff being female and 27% male.
