Gary Glitter Questioned by Police Over Historic Sex Offenses

Date:

Former pop star Gary Glitter, currently serving time in prison, has been questioned by the police regarding alleged sexual offenses involving a girl under 14 years old. The incidents are said to have occurred in the late 1970s and early 1980s at a residence in Kensington, west London. Glitter, whose real name is Paul Gadd, was interrogated in custody following a claim made in January 2025. He is reportedly detained at HMP Channings Wood in Devon. In 2015, the disgraced glam rock singer was sentenced to 16 years for sexually abusing three schoolgirls between 1975 and 1980, with his release set for 2031.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed that an elderly man was questioned regarding the reported offenses in July 2025. The investigation is ongoing, and the victim is receiving support from specialized officers. The police emphasized their commitment to listening to and assisting those reporting historical sexual offenses. The Met has bolstered safeguarding teams and provided training on victim support, leading to a significant increase in charges related to child sexual exploitation over the past year.

Following his release from HMP The Verne in February 2023, Glitter was returned to prison for breaching his parole conditions. This violation occurred shortly after his release when authorities discovered he had attempted to access the dark web and viewed illicit images of children. Despite his efforts to secure release through a parole board review in June, Glitter’s plea was rejected, and he remains incarcerated.

Glitter’s offenses, which led to his 2015 imprisonment, were uncovered as part of Operation Yewtree, an investigation launched by the Metropolitan Police in the aftermath of the Jimmy Savile scandal. He was the first individual arrested under the operation in October 2012 at his residence in London.
