This summer, opting for a road trip over air travel has become increasingly appealing for various reasons. Rising airline ticket prices, potential airport strikes in European cities, and concerns about jet fuel availability due to issues in the Strait of Hormuz are prompting many to consider hitting the road instead.
For my family and me, the decision to embark on a road trip stemmed from a desire to have the freedom to pack our Kia Sportage with all our belongings and explore multiple destinations in one journey. After reading extensively about road trips, we crafted an itinerary that catered to everyone’s interests.
Our adventure began with a voyage on a Brittany Ferry from Portsmouth to Caen, followed by a two-hour drive to Eurocamp in Domaine des Ormes, Brittany. The trip included a mix of activities, from enjoying Center Parcs-style amenities to indulging in a racing-themed visit to Le Mans and culminating in a magical experience at Disneyland Paris.
Driving abroad did raise some initial concerns, but leveraging resources like Gemini for trip planning and adhering to French road laws, such as carrying a safety kit and obtaining a Crit’Air sticker, ensured a smooth journey. Utilizing tools like the Emovis tag for toll payments and ensuring compliance with low-emission zone regulations added convenience to our travel experience.
While adjusting to driving on the opposite side of the road presented a challenge, the journey through France proved to be stress-free overall. Embracing the scenic views, relying on navigation aids like Google Maps, and creating memorable moments with family playlists and pit stops enhanced the road trip experience.
Our stay at Domaine des Ormes Eurocamp provided both comfort and affordability, with options for various budgets and preferences. Costs for transportation via Le Shuttle and Brittany Ferries were reasonable, making the road trip a cost-effective and enjoyable choice for future family adventures.
