The father of three sisters who tragically lost their lives at Brighton Beach shared his profound sorrow during their funeral, where family members gathered to bid their final farewells.
Jane Adetoro, 36, Christina Walters, 32, and Rebecca Walters, 31, were found in the water on May 13 after authorities responded to a distress call near Black Rock car park in Brighton. The sisters’ funeral was held in north-west London, marked by heartfelt tributes from loved ones.
In a poignant message written for the service, their father expressed the deep impact of the loss, describing his daughters as his source of happiness and strength. He reminisced about the cherished moments they shared and the unbreakable bond they held.
Their remaining sister, Lilian, reflected on the profound change in their family dynamic, stating, “We were four, and now I am one.”
During the funeral, their cousin Natalie Walters-Daniel honored the sisters’ achievements and the values they embodied. Born in Luton, the sisters had been residing together in Greenford, west London, prior to the tragic incident.
An inquest into the sisters’ deaths has commenced, with Sussex Police conducting investigations to determine the circumstances leading to the women’s entry into the water. The coroner emphasized the importance of ending speculation surrounding the incident and confirmed there was no external involvement.
Jane and Christina were retrieved from the sea by RNLI before being declared deceased, while Rebecca’s body was later discovered near Black Rock. The sisters’ father formally identified their bodies, pledging full cooperation with the ongoing investigation.
Sussex Police disclosed that inquiries were underway to understand the sisters’ activities before the incident, aiming to establish a comprehensive overview of the events leading up to the tragedy.
The inquest is scheduled to proceed in early October.
