Father Convicted in Infant’s Death Flees Justice

Date:

A father is evading law enforcement following his conviction for causing the death of his infant in a drunk-driving incident. Emmanuel Sakyi, aged 31, reportedly fled the crash scene in Milton Keynes in December 2022 after colliding with another vehicle while driving on the wrong side of the road.

Tragically, his seven-month-old daughter, Emmanuela, who was not properly secured in a car seat and was being held on her mother’s lap, sustained severe injuries in the accident and later succumbed to them at the hospital. Despite facing charges of causing death by dangerous driving, Sakyi, a resident of Milton Keynes, failed to attend his trial at Aylesbury Crown Court.

Following a trial where evidence revealed Sakyi was driving well over the legal alcohol limit and displaying reckless driving behavior, he was found guilty by a unanimous jury and sentenced to 15 years in prison in absentia. The court heard that Sakyi drove his vehicle for a significant distance on the wrong side of the road before crashing into another car.

Prosecutors highlighted that Sakyi neglected to properly restrain his daughter in a car seat, allowing her to sit in the front seat with only a seatbelt across her stomach, a dangerous practice. Despite warnings from the driver of the other vehicle involved in the crash, Sakyi continued driving straight and collided with the car. Following the incident, he fled the scene, avoiding police apprehension.

Thames Valley Police are now seeking the public’s assistance in locating Sakyi, describing him as a black male with a medium build, black hair, brown eyes, and approximately 5ft 3in tall. Detective Sergeant Ed Crofts emphasized the severity of the case and urged anyone with information on Sakyi’s whereabouts to contact the authorities immediately.

Sakyi, who denied but was ultimately found guilty of causing death by dangerous driving, received a 15-year prison sentence and an 18-year driving ban, despite his absence during sentencing.
