“Man arrested for DUI after using tractor to rescue crashed pickup”

Date:

A man was apprehended for driving under the influence after he showed up at a crash site in a tractor to pull his own pickup truck out of a ditch, where he had crashed it while intoxicated. Police in Nassau County, Florida responded to a collision involving a pickup truck in Callahan on June 24. Witnesses informed deputies that the driver had already left the scene and gone to a nearby residence. Bodycam footage displayed a white pickup truck stuck in a grassy ditch by the roadside. The individual intended to use a tractor to extract the truck and then return for the tractor.

According to the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office, the driver later came back with the tractor to tow his truck out of the ditch. Police body camera footage captured the man stumbling around the tractor upon his return, prompting officers to administer a sobriety test. The unidentified man failed the test and was promptly arrested and charged with driving under the influence.

Deputies from the Sheriff’s Office also discovered a 15-pack of cold beer and multiple opened containers in the man’s pickup truck. A statement from the Sheriff’s Office emphasized that DUI laws are applicable to all motor vehicles, including tractors, and urged individuals under the influence to surrender their keys to avoid endangering others on the road.
