UK Heatwave: Temperatures to Soar, Exceeding 35C

Date:

Britons can expect hotter weather in the upcoming days as temperatures are forecasted to reach 35C following a record-breaking June.

Next week, weather maps indicate that temperatures will soar above 30C in 30 counties, with a hot air mass sweeping across England from Wednesday to Thursday. The UK set a new provisional June temperature record of 37.7C in Lingwood, Norfolk, surpassing the previous record of 35.6C set in 1976 by over 2C.

The Met Office predicts that temperatures in the southern regions will start in the low to mid-20s this week, rising to the high 20s and early 30s over the weekend and into the following week. The hottest conditions are expected to concentrate in central and southern England initially, shifting eastward the following day towards London, the Home Counties, Essex, Kent, and East Anglia.

By mid-week, temperatures are anticipated to reach the low 30s in large parts of southern and central England, with some areas like Oxfordshire and nearby counties experiencing highs of 35C. The heatwave is projected to expand eastward on Thursday, with more counties likely to surpass 30C as temperatures continue to climb across the Midlands and other parts of England.

In northern regions, including Yorkshire, Greater Manchester, and Merseyside, temperatures are expected to approach 30C as warm air moves up through England. The core of the heat is forecasted to shift eastward by Wednesday and Thursday, turning southern and eastern England into deep red zones with highs in the low to mid-30s.

Wales is set to experience temperatures ranging from the mid to high 20s, while eastern Scotland may warm up to around 27-28C. Northern Ireland, western Scotland, and the far north are likely to remain cooler, avoiding the most intense heat.

The Met Office’s forecast for July 6-15 suggests that high pressure will dominate England and Wales, bringing dry and warm conditions with ample sunshine. Scotland and Northern Ireland may initially experience more cloud cover and periodic rain; however, they could also see drier and warmer weather as the high-pressure system moves northwards.

Temperatures are expected to rise widely, potentially reaching hot levels in parts of the southeast, although not as hot or humid as the previous week.
