Horse Racing Legend Frankie Dettori Hospitalized

Date:

Renowned horse racing legend Frankie Dettori was hospitalized after a harrowing incident where his vehicle overturned in a collision in Newmarket, Suffolk. The retired Italian jockey sustained injuries including a broken thumb and multiple ribs in the crash, which occurred when another vehicle struck the rear passenger side of his car, causing it to spin and flip over.

Emergency services quickly responded to the scene and transported Dettori to the hospital for treatment. His management team, H Talent Management, confirmed the accident and provided updates on his condition, stating that he is undergoing further assessments and scans while remaining hospitalized for observation.

Having retired earlier this year after a distinguished career spanning nearly four decades, Dettori, a three-time British flat racing Champion Jockey with 288 Grade 1 wins, is focusing on recuperation. His most notable feat was in 1996 at Ascot, where he achieved the rare feat of riding seven consecutive winners at a single race meeting. Dettori’s last race in Britain was in 2023, culminating with a victory at the Champion Stakes.

Following his decision to retire post the Breeders’ Cup in the United States in November 2025, Dettori now resides in California with his family. Notably, this is not the first time he has faced a serious accident, as in 2000, he survived a plane crash that tragically claimed a life. The miraculous survival prompted a thorough investigation into the crash, attributing the incident to a propeller malfunction during take-off.

As Dettori continues his recovery, his well-wishers are urged to respect his privacy during this challenging time as he focuses on regaining his health and strength.
