“BBC Apologizes for Wimbledon Scoreboard Glitch”

Date:

The BBC issued an apology to viewers due to a technical fault with the scoreboard during Novak Djokovic’s match against Arthur Rinderknech at Wimbledon. The scoreboard suddenly disappeared from television screens midway through the third set, forcing BBC cameras to switch to the physical scoreboard inside Centre Court. Lead commentator Andrew Cotter acknowledged the issue and mentioned they were working on resolving it.

When the scoreboard reappeared, viewers were surprised to see Djokovic trailing 3-0 in the third set after winning the first two sets comfortably. Djokovic’s frustrations were evident as he fell behind 4-0 and repeatedly struck himself on the leg during a changeover. Despite this setback, Djokovic managed to win the match 3-1 in sets.

The BBC faced criticism during the tournament’s opening week, with complaints about biased coverage of Serena Williams’ return. However, the scoreboard malfunction was not attributed to the broadcaster, as the Centre Court feeds at the All England Club also lost access to the scoreboard, which is linked to the BBC.

Viewers expressed frustration over the constant channel-switching between BBC1, BBC2, and iPlayer. The decision to shift BBC1 coverage away from Wimbledon to broadcast the World Cup match between England and DR Congo led to confusion among fans, as the schedule was changed without clear communication.
