This marked the first instance at the funeral where a direct appeal for President Trump’s death was expressed, amidst a backdrop of posters and graffiti advocating for the elimination of both the US President and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
This incident unfolded as Tehran engages in negotiations with the US to bring an end to the conflict that has disrupted global energy supplies.
Poet Mohammad Rasouli incited chants of “Death to America!” and “Death to Israel!” as he addressed the audience, questioning why President Trump, whom he referred to in derogatory terms, is still alive.
The funeral ceremony drew a significantly larger crowd than the day before, with mourners clad in black bearing banners and flags in honor of Mr. Khamenei, while also demanding President Trump’s demise as he delivered a speech in Washington marking the US founding anniversary.
President Trump’s statement boasting about military successes in Venezuela and Iran, claiming to have obliterated their armed forces, contrasted with the mourning atmosphere surrounding the late Mr. Khamenei’s funeral.
The funeral proceedings, aimed at honoring the decades-long rule of Mr. Khamenei before his demise at 86 in an airstrike, are expected to bolster Iran’s theocratic regime under the leadership of his son, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, especially as negotiations with the US continue regarding the end of the conflict and potential threats from Israel.
The funeral was postponed due to ongoing hostilities, with talks on hold until a resolution is reached.
