Following the Three Lions’ historic win against Mexico at the Azteca stadium, Kane secured England’s victory by scoring the third goal after Anthony Gordon earned a penalty. The game took a turn when Jarell Quansah was red-carded over a high tackle following a VAR review, adding pressure on England.
Back at home, fans stayed up late to witness the match, while the Azteca was packed with English supporters. Among the viewers was Trump, who expressed his admiration for Kane on his social media platform Truth Social, labeling him a “GREAT player.”
Jude Bellingham set the tone for England with consecutive goals in the 36th and 38th minutes, but Mexico retaliated with a goal from Julian Quinones before halftime. Despite a challenging second half that saw Quansah being sent off, Kane’s penalty restored England’s lead, maintaining the scoreline at 3-2 after Mexico’s Raul Jimenez also found the net.
In response to the intense match, Kane described it as “crazy” and emphasized the team’s resilience against all odds. His penalty marked his sixth goal in the tournament and 14th in his World Cup career, placing him tied for fifth on the scoring leaderboard alongside Gerd Müller.
Trump’s public admiration for Kane is not his first engagement with the tournament. FIFA recently made headlines by allowing the US player Folarin Balogun to participate in the next round against Belgium despite receiving a red card earlier. Trump commended FIFA’s decision, sparking controversy and a response from the Belgian Football Association.
Reports suggest that the White House contacted FIFA to review Balogun’s red card, although FIFA denies any influence from the White House on their decision-making process.
