Pizza Express executives initiated an internal investigation regarding allegations of a visit by Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor to the chain. This inquiry, prompted by discrepancies in Andrew’s alibi during a 2019 interview with Emily Maitlis, was reportedly inconclusive on whether he had actually been present at the restaurant.
Former employees were involved in the investigation, although the manager in question had left the company, preventing direct communication. During the interview, Andrew stated that he had dined at a Pizza Express location in Woking, Surrey with his daughter on the same day he was accused of inappropriate behavior with Virginia Giuffre.
Giuffre, who passed away last year, claimed that she and Andrew spent time together at a nightclub in London before an alleged encounter at Ghislaine Maxwell’s residence. Andrew consistently denied any misconduct, emphasizing that he had been at home with his children on the day in question.
BBC Newsnight reported that the Metropolitan Police, in response to a Freedom of Information request, neither confirmed nor denied the presence of royal protection officers with Andrew during the visit to Pizza Express in Woking years ago, citing national security concerns.
Andrew was arrested on his 66th birthday on suspicion of misconduct in public office and interviewed under caution before being released for further investigation. Detectives are currently examining evidence gathered during the search of his former residences in Windsor and Norfolk.
Additionally, a formal request has been made to the US Department of Justice for access to the original Epstein files, although no information has been received as of yet.
