“Majorca Airport Fire Sparks Flight Disruptions”

Date:

Flames have broken out in close proximity to the primary airport in Majorca, accompanied by loud explosions and billowing smoke above the runway.

Palma de Mallorca Airport has been placed on “pre-alert” due to the nearby fire, potentially causing disruptions to flights to and from the popular holiday destination cherished by British visitors.

Images depict thick black smoke ascending over the airport, visible for miles, while residents in the smoke’s path have been advised to remain indoors for safety.

The National Police and the Palma Fire Brigade have both responded to the scene, actively working to contain the flames. Two firefighters have received treatment for smoke inhalation. The fire reportedly originated within the Mercapalma main food storage facility before spreading to parked vehicles, making extinguishing the vehicles challenging due to the abundance of fuel present at the site.

According to reports, the Flightradar website indicates that 257 flights are currently delayed at Palma de Mallorca Airport. However, there have been no official updates regarding the fire on the airport’s website or social media platforms.

A spokesperson for Aena, the company managing Palma de Mallorca Airport, stated to the Mirror that, “At the moment, it is not impacting operations.”
