Donald Trump has once again raised the issue of Greenland and threatened to withdraw US troops from Europe. The US President made these statements while attending a crucial NATO summit in Turkey. Trump expressed his desire for the United States to take control of Greenland, a semi-autonomous region under Denmark’s authority, which could potentially strain relations within the military alliance.
During a meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Trump stated that Greenland should be under US control rather than Denmark’s, arguing that Denmark does not sufficiently support the territory. Trump also criticized European countries for what he perceives as excessive spending on migration and energy issues.
Trump further emphasized his discontent with the amount of US military presence in Europe, suggesting that if Europe does not address immigration and energy concerns adequately, the US may consider withdrawing its troops from the region. Currently, there are approximately 80,000 US troops stationed in Europe, playing a vital role in NATO defense strategies and deterring potential attacks.
