A man who was driving under the influence, resulting in a crash that led to the death of his teenage passenger, has been sentenced to prison. Erin Slane, 19, tragically lost her life in the incident that occurred on September 1, 2024. The driver, Kyle Patrick, was speeding at 119mph in Perthshire, Scotland when the car veered off the road, flipping several times before coming to a stop. While Erin did not survive, another passenger, Keira Jones, managed to live through the ordeal.
Patrick, from Scone, Perthshire, admitted to causing the death of Erin by dangerous driving and has been handed an eight-year jail term. Investigations revealed that he had been drinking with friends before offering rides to individuals, including the fateful journey that ended in tragedy. The court heard that Patrick’s actions were not a momentary lapse but a deliberate and reckless display of driving at excessive speeds while impaired by alcohol.
During the sentencing at the High Court in Glasgow, the judge emphasized the devastating impact of Patrick’s actions, acknowledging the promising future Erin had ahead of her. Patrick also confessed to driving under the influence and offering rides to individuals on the day of the incident. The judge emphasized that no amount of punishment could ease the pain inflicted on Erin’s family by Patrick’s irresponsible behavior.
