The parents of a young child, who was reportedly thrown into a crocodile enclosure, have shared an update on his progress after undergoing his sixth surgery and skin grafts. The three-year-old boy is currently in stable condition at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, showing signs of recovery three weeks following the harrowing incident where he was attacked by one or more crocodiles. Despite limited movement in his fingers, his parents expressed joy in seeing him smile once more.
In a recent update on GoFundMe, the parents expressed gratitude for the successful surgery, highlighting the positive news that the skin grafts on his arm were healing well. They praised the medical staff at Addenbrooke’s Hospital for their efforts in making their son happy, even dressing up as his favorite superheroes to lift his spirits.
The child, whose identity remains undisclosed, sustained injuries including a broken arm and pelvis at Johnsons of Old Hurst in Cambridgeshire on June 18. The zoo owners, Andy and Tracey Johnson, along with their son Edward, bravely intervened by entering the crocodile enclosure to rescue the child from danger.
Following the incident, a 30-year-old man from Norfolk was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder but was later released on bail due to being deemed unfit for questioning. It was reported that the man, who has severe learning difficulties and was accompanied by carers, allegedly threw the boy over a barrier into the enclosure.
An online fundraiser was initiated to aid the child’s recovery journey, raising over £62,000 so far. The parents expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support and highlighted their son’s bravery throughout the ordeal, acknowledging the challenges ahead as the nerve and tendon damage will require time for healing and assessment of functionality.
While celebrating small victories, the parents acknowledged the uncertainties surrounding the extent of their son’s recovery. They remain optimistic but are aware of the long road ahead, expressing deep appreciation for the ongoing support and care shown to their family during this difficult time.
Addenbrooke’s Hospital is reportedly under investigation after 40 staff members accessed the child’s medical records, prompting an inquiry by Cambridge University Hospitals to determine the legitimacy of the record access.
