The exciting news was shared by Sam on Instagram, expressing his happiness about the engagement. His fiancé, known as Ellie, is a 29-year-old painter and film artist. Both families, including Lady Sarah Chatto, Daniel Chatto, Professor David Ekserdjian, and Susan Moore, are delighted by the couple’s announcement.
Sam’s artistic talents come from his father, Daniel Chatto, a well-known painter. Sam, who is not officially involved in royal duties, is 30th in line to the throne. He and Ellie met at the University of Edinburgh in 2021 and have been together since.
Sam’s creative background was influenced by his childhood love for crafting, which led him to work with clay later in life. He was granted special permission to invite Ellie to spend Christmas with the Royal Family at Sandringham in 2024, breaking the tradition that couples had to be married to attend.
In addition to Sam, Princess Margaret’s other grandchildren include his brother, Arthur Chatto, and their cousins, Charles Armstrong-Jones, Viscount Linley, and Lady Margarita Armstrong-Jones. Sam, born in London, attended Eton College before studying history of art at the University of Edinburgh.
