“Family of Murdered Teenager Demands Justice Despite Mother’s Sentencing”

Date:

The family of Henry Nowak, a teenager who was murdered, has released a statement following the imprisonment of Vickrum Digwa’s mother for removing the knife used in the killing. Kiran Kaur was sentenced to three years in jail at Southampton Crown Court for aiding an offender by taking the weapon to their family home on the night of the incident on December 3, 2025. Found guilty by jurors in May, Kaur has been in custody for over seven months since her arrest.

Expressing their disappointment with the sentencing, Henry’s family stated that they will persist in seeking justice for him. They emphasized the need for thorough investigations to uncover the truth about the events of last December and urged the government to implement changes in memory of their son.

Digwa, aged 23, was previously sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 21 years for Henry’s murder, who was studying finance at the University of Southampton. Digwa had falsely accused Henry of racially abusing him.

During the court proceedings, it was revealed that the murder weapon, a knife, was recovered from CCTV footage and confirmed to be the weapon used in the crime about a week after the incident. Prosecutors highlighted Kaur’s crucial role in removing the weapon while the police were arriving at the scene, hindering the investigation process.

The judge, William Mousley, criticized Kaur for her actions, mentioning that a responsible parent would have confronted their child regarding such actions. Kaur’s defense attorney, Mark Watson, argued that her actions were impulsive and not premeditated. He emphasized that the weapon was not destroyed or hidden, portraying the incident as a moment of panic and human error.

Despite her positive character and community involvement, including volunteer work, Kaur was handed a prison sentence. Emotional during the proceedings, she had the support of a Punjabi interpreter. A full inquest into Henry’s death is scheduled to take place in Winchester next year.
