Armed police responded to a Liverpool street this afternoon following reports of a man sighted with a ‘gun’. Merseyside Police were alerted to City Road in Walton around 2.50pm after receiving information that three men were engaged in a dispute, with one reportedly in possession of a firearm.
Officers equipped with firearms quickly arrived at the scene, where they apprehended a man and seized an imitation firearm. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident.
A local resident described the commotion, stating that they heard loud shouting around 3pm, followed by the swift arrival of armed police units. The situation was resolved promptly.
A 48-year-old man from the Walton area has been arrested on suspicion of various offenses, including possession of an offensive weapon in a private place and possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence. He is currently in police custody for further questioning.
Authorities are actively searching for the other two individuals believed to have been involved in the altercation. They have assured the public that there is no ongoing threat related to the incident.
Chief Inspector Andy Foster emphasized the importance of public cooperation in combating gun-related crimes. He highlighted the need for community members to report any relevant information to ensure the safety of law-abiding citizens. Foster urged individuals to come forward with details, either directly to the police or through the anonymous Crimestoppers hotline.
Following the incident, a road closure was implemented but has since been lifted.
