Channing Tatum recently shared the straightforward eating strategy he adopted to shed over five stone in preparation for a movie role. The renowned actor, famous for his performances in “Step Up” and “Magic Mike,” detailed how adhering to a consistent routine enabled one of his most significant physical transformations.
In his mid-40s, Tatum disclosed that his key change involved delaying his first meal until approximately 3 pm daily. His plan included consuming two modest meals centered on meat and vegetables, complemented by extended light cardio sessions.
During a recent interview, Tatum acknowledged his historical ease in fluctuating weight for film roles but noted the increasing challenge with age. Recalling his past ability to swiftly lose weight, he mentioned a notable instance where he transitioned from around 245lbs for a project requiring a “dad bod” appearance to approximately 172lbs for another role, amounting to a drastic loss of over five stone.
Initially aiming to reach 185lbs, Tatum found himself surpassing this goal due to the structured environment of film sets, which facilitated his adherence to the regimen. Describing his approach, he highlighted a fasting period until mid-afternoon followed by two small meals comprising meat and vegetables, accompanied by light, prolonged cardio sessions.
Tatum’s routine aligns with intermittent fasting, a method restricting eating to specific hours of the day. While intermittent fasting may aid in reducing overall calorie intake, sustained weight loss still hinges on a well-rounded diet and regular physical activity, according to the NHS. Studies in the New England Journal of Medicine support intermittent fasting as a viable weight-loss strategy for some adults, although its effectiveness is comparable to other calorie-controlled diets.
Echoing insights from his personal chef and nutritionist, Aline Fiuza, Tatum typically initiates body transformations with fasting before transitioning to an intermittent fasting schedule, consuming meals between around 1 pm and 6 pm or 7 pm. His diet centers on vegetables, animal protein, nuts, and seeds tailored to the demands of each role, gradually reintroducing three meals a day as filming progresses.
Expressing a reluctance to undergo extreme weight fluctuations, Tatum recently announced his aversion to such roles in a candid Instagram post, emphasizing the physical toll and challenges associated with rapid weight changes.
