The Moscow region faced a significant drone attack resulting in a fire at an oil refinery, prompting the evacuation of a maternity hospital and an apartment block, as per the Governor of the region.
The assault, suspected to originate from Ukraine, caused multiple explosions and left 28 individuals injured.
Governor Andrey Vorobyov disclosed that 48 drones were downed overnight in the region, with the most severe impact observed in the Bogorodsky urban district, where an oil depot in Noginsk caught fire due to a drone crash.
As a precautionary measure, a nearby maternity hospital evacuated all patients and staff, relocating them swiftly to other medical facilities. Women in need of specialized care were transferred to hospitals in Noginsk, Balashikha, and Shchelkovo. Concurrently, residents of an apartment complex on Radchenko Street were also evacuated.
Eyewitnesses shared videos showing flames and explosions at the Noginsk oil depot, which houses 24 storage tanks with a total capacity of 11,500 cubic meters. Online footage depicted massive black smoke plumes rising from the depot as flames engulfed the area.
The depot serves as a critical fuel storage and logistics hub for the Moscow region, utilized by traders and fuel companies for storing and transporting petroleum products.
Governor Vorobyov reported the deployment of 40 ambulance teams and 12 units from the regional disaster medicine center. Emergency services, police, and municipal workers are actively engaged in clearing the aftermath of the attack and assessing the impacted zone.
