An aspiring Miss Universe contestant, known for her inspirational presence, was tragically discovered deceased in her residence. Wualys Fuentes Aquino was found lifeless by concerned family members who had not been in contact with her for several days. They visited her apartment and made the distressing finding before informing authorities on Monday.
Law enforcement cordoned off the area while forensic teams collected evidence at her residence in the Altos del Trapiche residential neighborhood of Tegucigalpa, Honduras.
Authorities took the model’s body for a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death, which is currently undisclosed. Officials have not ruled out the possibility of foul play or natural causes as investigations are ongoing.
Recently, the young model and student achieved the runner-up position in the Miss Universe Tegucigalpa 2026 competition. She came in second place behind the eventual winner, Luciana Núñez.
Event organizers commended her skills, charm, and supportive attitude towards fellow competitors.
Following her participation in the contest, she expressed on Instagram: “Today, I am grateful to be acknowledged as the first runner-up in Miss Universe Tegucigalpa. It is more than just a title; it signifies that I have given my best effort every step of the way. I appreciate those who value the hard work, dedication, and essence that precede any outcome.”
In a post the day after the event, she shared, “The 14-year-old girl who faced bullying due to her body type has healed and shone brightly yesterday. Standing on a stage in front of a large audience is not easy, but my confidence and potential will lead me to great accomplishments. Today, I can confidently say that I love myself as I am, understanding that God created me in his image and likeness.”
Apart from modeling, Wualys pursued studies in International Marketing and Social Work at the National Autonomous University of Honduras (UNAH).
She was recognized as a rising star in her country and frequently showcased her passion for travel on social media. The Miss Universe Tegucigalpa organization described her as supportive, kind-hearted, and dedicated.
Friends remembered her as a cheerful and charismatic young woman with ambitious aspirations.
One individual wrote, “Today, we bid farewell to a queen who left an everlasting impression on our hearts. Beyond the glamour and stages, she will always be remembered for her radiance, kindness, and the motivation she instilled in those fortunate to have known her. Her departure leaves a significant void, but her legacy will endure in every heart she touched. May she rest in peace, and may her luminance continue to illuminate the universe like an eternal star brightening our memories. You will forever reside in our thoughts.”
The investigation into her passing is currently ongoing.
