The wildfires, which ignited last week, have forced 220,000 individuals to flee their residences in south-west France, with an additional 116,000 evacuations reported in Spain. Tragically, one civilian and two firefighters have lost their lives amidst the extensive emergency efforts.

Additional incidents across Europe, such as fires in western Germany and a heathland fire at Headon Warren on the Isle of Wight, are also marked on the map.
Authorities in south-west France have taken precautionary measures to deter tourists from popular destinations like Arcachon Bay, Cap-Ferret, and Le Porge by shutting down a major motorway and prohibiting children’s holiday camps.
A colossal inferno, active since the previous week, is encroaching towards Bordeaux’s wine region, prompting considerations for a potential full-scale evacuation. Local official Sophie Brocas has urged tourists to avoid the region until the situation stabilizes, advising those already present to seek alternative destinations.

On the domestic front, emergency services in the UK are preparing for potential wildfires as the country braces for its fourth heatwave of the summer. Following the third heatwave in mid-July, firefighters tackled 19 significant wildfires concurrently in England and Wales.
The National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC) has emphasized the need for heightened vigilance as the Met Office forecasts another heatwave, underscoring the importance of fire and rescue services remaining alert to mitigate the renewed wildfire risk.
