“100mph Chase Ends in Arrest: Salford Driver’s Reckless Pursuit”

During a harrowing 45-minute pursuit in Salford, a driver hit speeds of 100mph in an attempt to flee from the police. Greater Manchester Police unveiled video footage of the incident today, showcasing a Nissan Qashqai being tailed by officers at 10:30 am. The car recklessly navigated 30mph roads, mounted curbs, and drove on the wrong side of the road, endangering oncoming traffic.

The driver, exhibiting dangerous and erratic driving at high velocities, refused to pull over for law enforcement, prompting the chase. A helicopter and 10 police vehicles joined the pursuit, tracking the Nissan as it reached speeds of up to 100mph through Salford, traversed the East Lancashire Road, drove against traffic flow, and even maneuvered through an underground supermarket parking lot.

The pursuit concluded when authorities successfully utilized a stinger to halt the car, leading to the arrest of a 36-year-old man on suspicion of dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, and evading arrest. He is currently in police custody for interrogation.

Following a collision between the suspect’s vehicle and another car, a woman sustained minor injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment. Additionally, an officer incurred a hand injury during the stinger deployment.

Police Sergeant Neil Molloy from the Specialist Operations Team’s Tactical Vehicle Intercept Unit emphasized the extreme peril posed by such reckless driving. He expressed gratitude that no serious injuries resulted from the incident and commended the swift and professional actions of the officers in resolving the situation safely.

The official statement from GMP detailed the high-speed pursuit of a Nissan Qashqai, clocking speeds of up to 100mph in Salford at 10:30 am. The pursuit, initiated by the Tactical Vehicle Intercept Unit, began after observing the vehicle’s dangerous and erratic driving, which led to a 45-minute chase across Salford involving helicopters and 10 police vehicles.

During the pursuit, the Nissan navigated the East Lancashire Road, defied traffic norms at roundabouts, and even ventured through an active underground supermarket parking lot during daylight hours. The chase culminated in the deployment of a stinger, bringing the vehicle to a stop and resulting in the arrest of the 36-year-old driver on various charges.

An officer received medical attention for a hand injury sustained during the stinger deployment, underscoring the risks associated with such incidents.
