Reports indicate that the Clooneys penned a letter to Brignoles Mayor Didier Brémond, expressing concern over the devastation caused by the wildfires. In the letter, they conveyed their uncertainty about the fate of their beloved home during these trying times. Despite their evacuation from Brignoles, they affirmed their solidarity with the community and their commitment to contributing to its restoration, emphasizing their love for the town and its inhabitants.
Their 172-hectare property, Domaine de Canadel, acquired in 2021 for approximately $USD8.3 million, serves as the couple’s primary residence where they reside with their nine-year-old twins, Alexander and Ella. France is one of the nations severely impacted by the wildfires, exacerbated by heatwaves affecting regions in France, Spain, Greece, and Portugal. The EU’s emergency response chief has cautioned that the fires could potentially spread to engulf the entirety of Europe. Ms. Zuber highlighted the escalating wildfire dangers, projecting 2026 to potentially surpass last year as the most intense fire season in European history. The imminent days are expected to be challenging, with the wildfire threat shifting eastward after devastating parts of France and the Iberian Peninsula. Ms. Zuber warned of impending risks in Italy and potentially across the Iberian Peninsula, hinting at a grim scenario where all of Europe could be ablaze.
