Expectations are for London to experience a high of 34C this afternoon, while the Midlands may see temperatures reach 32C, the north-west at 29C, and Cardiff at 27C. Northern Ireland and Scotland are likely to have cooler temperatures, with highs of 21C in both Belfast and Glasgow according to the Met Office.
The GFS weather model forecasts temperatures rising above 30C next Wednesday, with potential highs of 33C in western England, 32C in Wales, and 31C in Yorkshire. By Thursday, temperatures could reach 34C widely in eastern, central, and southern parts of England, with most of England and Wales exceeding 30C again.
Similar conditions are expected on Friday and Saturday next week, with possible highs of 34C in western areas and the south-east of England, respectively. Temperature anomaly maps indicate that England and Wales are likely to experience temperatures well above the seasonal average.
The GFS model suggests that 15 counties in England may witness temperatures hitting 34C or higher next week. The Met Office anticipates temperatures to remain above average, noting a potential for “thundery interludes” in southern regions.
Looking ahead, the Met Office mentions a trend towards high pressure dominating the north of the UK by mid-August, with the likelihood of Atlantic frontal systems or thundery conditions affecting southern areas. While temperatures are expected to stay above average, exceptional heat is not forecasted for the upcoming period.
