A man, identified as Nathan Owen, was caught on camera crashing into a police car in a peculiar attempt to stage an emergency and write off his own vehicle. The incident unfolded as Owen, 33, intentionally rammed into a police car multiple times on various highways in Merseyside, reaching speeds of up to 86mph over a 38-mile distance. This triggered a substantial police response under the belief that his car was out of control, only to later discover that Owen had orchestrated the entire event.
Following the reckless act, Owen admitted to charges of dangerous driving and fraud, resulting in a sentencing of four years and three months in prison. Judge Ian Unsworth KC emphasized the serious consequences of Owen’s actions, stating that his deceitful behavior led to significant police deployment, public alarm, and financial losses for others. The court learned that Owen, from Prestatyn, North Wales, had faced financial difficulties and was behind on payments for his Jaguar I-Pace. In a bid to get rid of the vehicle, he falsely reported a malfunction, prompting the dramatic police pursuit that ultimately led to the closure of motorways. Despite Owen’s claims of losing control over his car, investigations confirmed that he had full command of the vehicle during the entire episode.
