“UK Braces for Scorching Heatwave Next Week”

Date:

A new heatwave is expected to hit next week, potentially bringing temperatures soaring up to 36C. According to the GFS weather model, Sunday may see temperatures exceeding 30C, with highs of 32C in the south and east of England and around 30-31C in central regions.

On Monday, western England and southern-central areas could experience scorching temperatures of 36C, while the Midlands might reach 35C, Wales 34C, and Yorkshire up to 32C. The forecast suggests a repeat of 36C temperatures on Tuesday, mainly in East Anglia, with regions like Lincolnshire and Yorkshire reaching 33C, the Midlands and southeast at 34C, and Wales at 30C.

Scotland and Northern Ireland are likely to remain cooler, with temperatures in the mid-20s or lower throughout the week. The GFS model projects temperatures above 30C in England daily until Sunday, with peak temperatures of 34C in the south on Wednesday, 33C on Thursday, and around 30-31C on Friday and Saturday.

Temperature anomaly maps show England and Wales highlighted in dark red, indicating temperatures significantly above the norm. Data suggests that ten counties in England could experience 36C temperatures.

Looking ahead to August 8-17, the Met Office forecasts above-average temperatures, particularly in southern regions, but potentially without the extreme heat of recent weeks. Thunderstorms may occur intermittently, with variable rainfall amounts in different areas. By mid-August, high pressure could dominate the north or northwest of the UK, leading to a higher likelihood of frontal systems or thunderstorms affecting southern and eastern regions compared to recent weeks.
