“Gordie Howe Bridge Draws Thousands in Cross-Border Traffic Surge”

Statistics Canada has reported that tens of thousands of drivers crossed the Gordie Howe International Bridge into Canada in the initial days following its inauguration. The highly awaited bridge linking Windsor and Detroit commenced operations on July 27 after encountering several weeks of delays. According to preliminary inbound traffic data from StatCan, 18,900 Canadian residents made return trips from the United States via the Gordie Howe bridge within its first five days of service. Concurrently, 18,100 U.S. residents utilized the bridge to enter Canada during the same timeframe.

In comparison, other border crossings in the vicinity, namely the Ambassador Bridge and the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel, saw a total of 52,700 inbound trips by both Canadian and U.S. residents over the corresponding period. Additionally, StatCan noted that 4,100 commercial transport trucks entered Canada via the Gordie Howe bridge in the final five days of July.
