Chilean Superstar Alexis Sánchez Joins CF Montreal

Date:

Montreal’s well-known soccer secret is now official: Alexis Sánchez, the Chilean superstar, is set to join CF Montreal. The club confirmed on Tuesday that Sánchez will be joining as a designated player, bringing a wealth of talent and experience to a team in need of a boost. This news was initially reported by various media outlets, including El Deportivo and The Athletic.

Luca Saputo, CF Montreal’s senior director of recruitment and sporting methodology, expressed excitement about Sánchez’s arrival, stating that it marks a significant milestone in the club’s sporting project. Saputo highlighted Sánchez’s exceptional technical skills and extensive experience in top-tier football, emphasizing how his personality, leadership qualities, and competitive spirit align perfectly with the club’s vision and goals.

Sánchez, who is 37 years old, holds the record for the most goals scored for Chile’s national team, known as La Roja, with an impressive tally of 51 international goals.

Before the official announcement, CF Montreal teased fans with a video hinting at a major signing, with Saputo mentioning, “He wants Alexis, number 10,” referring to Sánchez’s jersey number. The anticipation and subsequent confirmation of Sánchez’s arrival have generated excitement among his fans. Sánchez will be joining fellow Chilean player Thomas Gillier, who serves as the club’s goalkeeper.

Having played for Sevilla FC in the 2025-26 season, where he scored four goals in 28 appearances, Sánchez now adds to the trend of seasoned star players making moves to Major League Soccer (MLS). This trend includes recent signings such as Robert Lewandowski joining Chicago Fire, Antoine Griezmann signing with Orlando City, and Casemiro linking up with Lionel Messi at Inter Miami.

Overall, Sánchez’s arrival at CF Montreal is seen as a significant boost for the club and an exciting development for fans eagerly awaiting his debut on the MLS stage.
