Four individuals implicated in a London, Ontario investigation involving explosives and firearms manufacturing are now confronted with a fresh set of charges, as per court records filed on Tuesday. Jerry Tong, Zekun (Alex) Wang, Fei (Frank) Han, and Feiyang (Astrid) Ji are now facing an additional 19 charges, bringing the total count to 31 charges in total, comprising both joint and individual charges.
The new charges encompass possession of five specific explosive substances, possession of stolen property, and accessing computer data related to the production of firearms. The investigation, which dates back to January 24, originated when the police responded to an overnight trespassing incident at Western University, leading to the apprehension of one individual outside an engineering building. Subsequent investigation led to the arrest of the other three individuals at a residence in the nearby University Heights neighborhood.
Law enforcement conducted an extensive search at the residence on Chesham Place, where Wang, Han, and Ji resided, in addition to two other properties in Orleans, Ontario, and Gatineau, Quebec. All four accused individuals were either students or recent graduates of Western University, with the male suspects having studied in the engineering department.
Upon their initial arrest, all four faced multiple firearms charges, including handgun manufacturing and possession of a loaded restricted handgun. The new charges against Tong, Wang, and Ji involve possession of magazines and suppression devices, as well as possession of another prohibited firearm. Tong and Wang are also accused of handling and carelessly storing a rifle.
Tong, who bears the majority of charges, faces additional counts related to incidents in other cities, including storing rifles in Orleans, manufacturing a prohibited firearm in Ottawa, and possessing a rifle at an unauthorized location in Quebec. Despite holding a firearms license, Tong is charged with possessing a firearm at a location not specified on his license.
Furthermore, Wang and Tong are confronted with new charges linked to events preceding their arrest, with Wang charged with manufacturing a weapon between September 1, 2025, and January 24, 2026. Additionally, both individuals are accused of breaking into a Western building on October 9, 2025.
Court documents reveal that Tong, Wang, Han, and Ji face a fresh set of charges for possessing explosive substances, including pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN), trinitrotoluene (TNT), dinitrophenol (DNP), hexamethylene triperoxide diamine (HMTD), and lead azide. They are also charged with possessing property belonging to Western University valued at less than $5,000.
Wang faces a solitary charge of accessing computer data related to firearms or prohibited devices, specifically design files usable with a 3D printer, metal milling machine, or similar system for manufacturing a device.
Tong faces 28 charges, Wang faces 20 charges, Han faces 11 charges, and Ji faces 13 charges in total. The legal proceedings are ongoing, with some individuals in custody while others are out on bail. Tong did not seek bail and remains in custody, while Han was denied bail and returned to custody in February. Wang was granted bail in March under stringent conditions, including 24-hour house arrest and supervision by two sureties who each posted $200,000, while Ji is out on bail without sureties.
