Bagpiper in Ottawa Attacked While Busking, Resilient in Recovery

Date:

Kevin Murison, a bagpiper in Ottawa, receives a mix of reactions while performing on a busy sidewalk during weekends. Despite some negative responses, he mostly receives positive feedback from passersby who appreciate his music. Clad in full Highland attire, Murison often busks near the Ottawa Locks beside the Château Laurier.

In a recent incident on a Saturday afternoon, Murison encountered a violent attack that left him injured. While playing in his usual spot, a man approached him under the guise of taking a photo but then brandished a knife. The situation escalated quickly, resulting in Murison sustaining injuries to his hand.

Fortunately, a bystander called 911, leading to the swift arrival of the police. The suspect was apprehended nearby, and a subsequent investigation revealed that the attack was unprovoked. The 25-year-old assailant faces multiple charges, including assault with a weapon and breaching probation.

Despite the traumatic experience, Murison remains resilient, expressing gratitude for the support he has received from his community and bandmates. With a new bagpipe bag provided by his band, Murison is determined to overcome the setback and return to playing once he has fully recovered.
