The Canadian national women’s basketball team concluded the preliminary stage of the FIBA Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament with a 70-64 victory over the Mexican team in Guadalajara on Thursday evening.
Yvonne Ejim led Canada with 19 points, contributing to their undefeated 3-0 record, while Syla Swords added 17 points to the scoreboard.
Mariana Valenzuela scored 17 points for Mexico in the closely contested match.
Canada is now set to face New Zealand in the semifinals on Saturday, with the host team going up against Brazil. The championship game is scheduled for Sunday.
The eventual winner of the tournament will secure a spot in one of the FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournaments to be held in February 2028.
