“Christmas Countdown: Prices Surge for Festive Advent Calendars”

Date:

Samantha Bartlett, an Assistant Editor at Reach Plc, reports that supermarkets are already stocking up on festive food and Christmas gifts, including advent calendars, despite Halloween being around the corner. The tradition of advent calendars, a countdown to Christmas with daily treats, is evolving with various offerings, from chocolate to beauty products and alcohol, some priced at hundreds of pounds.

While luxury advent calendars are expected to cost more, the price hike is notable this year. For example, the Ferrero Rocher advent calendar is priced at £17.50 at Sainsbury’s, surprising many shoppers. Other options like Lindt Selection and NOMO Ultimate Choc calendars are also priced between £15 and £16. The escalating costs extend to brands like Cadbury Heroes and Kinder Bueno, with prices ranging from £7.50 to £9.

Shoppers purchasing the Ferrero Rocher advent calendar from Selfridges will pay even more, at £24.99, compared to the £17.50 price at Sainsbury’s or Ocado. This trend adds to the financial burden of the holiday season, particularly affecting parents buying multiple calendars for their children. The affordability of this once-charming tradition is now in question, impacting many who are already concerned about holiday expenses.

In response to these pricing changes, a Sainsbury’s representative has been approached for comment.
