“Aldi to Open 80 New Stores in £1.6B Expansion”

Date:

Aldi has unveiled a plan to expand its presence by opening 80 new stores within the next two years, marking a significant £1.6 billion investment initiative. The supermarket chain is set to launch 21 new outlets in the upcoming 13 weeks, including locations in Shoreditch, Durham, and Kirkintilloch.

With a current count of 1,060 stores in the UK, Aldi aims to reach a total of 1,500 stores through this expansion, creating numerous job opportunities and fostering relationships with British suppliers. The company’s recent financial report for the 12 months ending December 2024 indicated a revenue surge to £18.1 billion.

Despite a decline in operating profit to £435.5 million attributed to customer price reductions, infrastructure investments, and enhanced employee compensation, Aldi has remained committed to providing quality products at competitive prices. The chain has slashed prices on over 900 items and invested over £300 million in price reductions since the onset of 2025, spanning categories like produce, bakery goods, dairy products, and household essentials.

Furthermore, Aldi has boosted wages for store assistants twice this year, with hourly rates now set at a minimum of £13.02 nationwide and £14.35 within the M25 region. Giles Hurley, the CEO of Aldi UK and Ireland, emphasized their dedication to delivering exceptional value and dependable quality to customers, highlighting the ongoing commitment to offering everyday low prices without any membership schemes or marketing gimmicks.

Aldi’s steadfast approach to affordability was recently validated by consumer group Which?, which named Aldi the most economical supermarket in a comparison study. The analysis revealed that a typical basket of 75 items cost an average of £127.92 at Aldi in August 2025, outperforming rivals like Lidl with its Lidl Plus loyalty program.

In conclusion, Aldi’s strategic investment and continuous efforts to cater to diverse communities reflect its unwavering commitment to providing value-driven shopping experiences for customers nationwide.
