Aldi has unveiled a plan to expand its presence by opening 80 new stores within the next two years, marking a significant £1.6 billion investment initiative. The supermarket chain is set to launch 21 new outlets in the upcoming 13 weeks, including locations in Shoreditch, Durham, and Kirkintilloch.
With a current count of 1,060 stores in the UK, Aldi aims to reach a total of 1,500 stores through this expansion, creating numerous job opportunities and fostering relationships with British suppliers. The analysis revealed that a typical basket of 75 items cost an average of £127.92 at Aldi in August 2025, outperforming rivals like Lidl with its Lidl Plus loyalty program.
