“Andy Burnham Launches No10 North as Hub for Revitalized Britain”

Date:

Andy Burnham has declared that the newly opened No10 North will serve as the central hub of a revitalized Britain. Speaking to staff at the Manchester office, which commenced operations this week, he emphasized that power and energy will emanate from the site, where he intends to spend at least one day weekly.

Burnham unveiled the establishment of the new office as a measure to counterbalance London’s power concentration, highlighting its significance beyond current perceptions. He emphasized the importance of establishing a Northern counterpart to the country’s South Pole to promote a sense of balance and enable substantial achievements.

Describing No10 North as the meeting point between Whitehall and the rest of the nation, Burnham referred to it as the nerve center for a reinvigorated Britain. He stressed its role in facilitating swift decision-making by bringing together mayors, teams, and Whitehall departments to overcome obstacles and drive progress.

Having served as regional mayor in Manchester before assuming his current position, Burnham expressed immense satisfaction witnessing No10 North in action, considering it a pivotal moment. Responding to concerns that other regions may feel neglected, he emphasized that the facility is equally beneficial for Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, and all English regions, fostering national cohesion and progress.

While facing inquiries regarding the operational costs of No10 North, Burnham defended the initiative, highlighting the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of having a centralized hub outside London for crucial meetings and decision-making processes. Cabinet members, including Chancellor John Healey, convened at No10 North for a meeting of the National Economic Council, aimed at driving nationwide growth.

Reflecting on his personal journey and the need to create opportunities in all regions, Burnham reiterated the government’s commitment to fostering equal opportunities across the country, with No10 North symbolizing this transformative effort. Amid a significant police presence outside the building, Housing Secretary Angela Rayner emphasized the importance of decentralizing power to empower local communities and drive progress collaboratively.
