“Anniversary Tragedy: New Details Emerge in Hot-Tub Death”

Date:

An investigation into the tragic death of a woman who was found hanged shortly after sharing hot-tub photos with her husband on their anniversary has uncovered new details about the incident.

Abigail Garside, a 30-year-old champion horse rider, was discovered dead in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, during her wedding anniversary weekend. The discovery was made by a member of the public on the morning of August 18 last year. Just hours before her death, she had been celebrating with her husband, Samuel Garside, posting affectionate pictures online marking their anniversary.

Despite the outward appearance of a joyous celebration, the inquest revealed that Mrs. Garside had left their hotel room abruptly after an argument. The couple, hailing from Blackburn, Lancashire, had been staying at Rudding Park resort, where they had been enjoying drinks and cocaine following a day of festivities. The evening took a turn after a dispute at a local bar, leading Mrs. Garside to storm out of their hotel room.

According to Sarah Middleton, the assistant coroner for North Yorkshire, the couple’s anniversary weekend, meant to be special, turned into a tragic sequence of events involving alcohol consumption, drug use, and arguments. Mrs. Garside left the hotel in the early hours of the morning, leaving behind her phone. Her husband, Mr. Garside, woke up to find her missing and later discovered the heartbreaking news of her death.

Following the incident, Mr. Garside frantically searched for his wife, only to be informed of her passing by authorities near the hotel. The couple had plans to relocate to Australia before the tragic event. Mrs. Garside’s father expressed shock at the sudden loss, emphasizing her promising future and happy marriage.

The coroner, in a narrative verdict, highlighted the impact of alcohol and drugs on behavior, suggesting that Mrs. Garside’s actions were out of character and influenced by substances consumed that night. The conclusion emphasized that without the influence of alcohol and cocaine, the tragic outcome may have been avoided, as Mrs. Garside had much to live for.
