Apple’s most recent iPhone model has reached its lowest price point ever as the company gears up to introduce a new addition to its smartphone range. Sky Mobile is offering the iPhone 16e at a discounted price of £18.
The price drop coincides with Apple’s announcement of a live stream event scheduled for Tuesday, September 9, where the highly anticipated iPhone 17 is expected to be unveiled. Apple CEO Tim Cook teased the event with a tweet saying, “Get ready for an awe-dropping #AppleEvent on Tuesday, September 9.”
While details remain scarce, viewers tuning into the live stream event may get a glimpse of the updated iPhone 17 Pro and the rumored iPhone 17 Air. Similar to Apple’s other product lines like the iPad Air and MacBook Air, this new addition is likely to feature a sleeker and more compact design.
As tech enthusiasts eagerly anticipate the new Apple releases, Sky Mobile’s discounted offer on the current iPhone model makes it even more accessible. The iPhone 16e, previously priced at £19, is now available for £18, saving customers £48 over the duration of the plan.
The device includes 100MB of data by default, but customers can opt for larger data packages at discounted rates, such as 50GB for £12 and unlimited data for £20. Sky Mobile typically offers 36-month smartphone contracts, with the option to upgrade to a new phone at no extra cost after 24 months.
Sky isn’t the only retailer slashing prices ahead of the Apple event; Amazon has reduced the price of the iPhone 16e from £599 to £544 for those who prefer to purchase outright, undercutting Apple’s own price of £599 for the same model.
Introduced in February, the iPhone 16e is positioned as a more budget-friendly version of the standard iPhone 16, boasting impressive capabilities powered by Apple’s latest A18 chip. The smartphone features a 6.1″ Super Retina XDR display and utilizes AI functionalities through Apple Intelligence, offering tools like object removal from images and ChatGPT writing tools. Additionally, the iPhone 16e comes equipped with a 48MP Fusion camera, 4K video recording with Dolby Vision, and safety features including Emergency SOS and Roadside Assistance.
Technology Editor Dave Snelling reviewed the iPhone 16e earlier this year, praising its premium design featuring toughened Ceramic Shield glass and aerospace-grade aluminum. He highlighted the device’s powerful A18 processor and access to Apple Intelligence, noting its superiority over older iPhone models in terms of performance.
However, Snelling pointed out some drawbacks of the iPhone 16e, including the absence of features like Dynamic Island notch, MagSafe charging, and the latest version of Ceramic Shield glass found in higher-end Apple models. Despite these limitations, he recommended the iPhone 16e, especially considering the current deals available.
