Apple has officially announced its latest smartphone, the iPhone 17e, confirming earlier speculations. Following the iPhone 16e, the new model maintains Apple’s approach of offering essential features at a more budget-friendly price compared to its premium counterparts.
Priced at £599, the iPhone 17e is over £200 cheaper than the iPhone 17 and £500 less expensive than the 17 Pro. It now comes with a standard 256GB storage capacity, doubling the base storage of its predecessor.
One of the significant upgrades is the inclusion of the A19 chip, enhancing performance compared to the A18 in the 16e. The device features Apple’s latest C1X cellular modem, promising faster speeds for downloads and streaming on cellular networks.
The phone boasts a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display with vibrant visuals and is protected by Apple’s durable Ceramic Shield glass. Additionally, improved anti-reflective technology reduces glare for better visibility in bright conditions.
MagSafe, a feature absent in the 16e, enables faster wireless charging and allows users to attach compatible accessories like wallets and stands to the phone’s back.
Photography enthusiasts will appreciate the 48MP Fusion camera, offering advanced sensor technology for improved zoom and composition. The device supports 4K video recording with Dolby Vision at up to 60 frames per second.
Safety features include Emergency SOS via satellite for messaging in cellular dead zones and Crash Detection for automatic emergency service contact in case of a severe car accident.
The iPhone 17e will be available in black, white, and a new soft pink finish, starting at £599. Kaiann Drance, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide iPhone Product Marketing, emphasized the device’s powerful performance, enhanced features, and exceptional value, making it an attractive choice for customers seeking to upgrade within the iPhone 17 family.
