“Astronauts Embark on Historic Journey to Moon”

Date:

A group of astronauts embarked on a historic journey to the Moon, marking the first manned mission since 1972. The Artemis II mission, launched from Cape Canaveral in Florida, amazed a passenger on a Delta Air Lines flight who captured the event on video and shared it on social media.

The video showcases the rocket’s fiery plume and vapor trail as it accelerated to speeds of up to 17,000mph. From the plane’s vantage point, the rocket’s curved trajectory was visible, a method used to leverage gravity for acceleration instead of relying solely on fuel.

During the initial phase of the flight, the four astronauts orbited the Earth for 25 hours before the spacecraft’s rockets fired to propel them towards the Moon. Nasa officials expressed excitement as the crew successfully left Earth’s orbit, setting the stage for a momentous journey.

Astronauts aboard the mission, including Commander Reid Wiseman, pilot Victor Glover, and Christina Koch, marveled at the breathtaking view from their windows. The crew’s trajectory is now set for a lunar flyby before returning to Earth, breaking records for the farthest distance traveled by humans in space.

The Artemis II mission, although not landing on the Moon, serves as a crucial step towards future lunar exploration and lays the groundwork for potential Mars missions. Despite initial delays, Nasa remains committed to returning a crew to the Moon by 2028, striving to achieve this goal before other spacefaring nations, like China, in the upcoming decade.
