A popular amusement park in the US is gearing up for its closure after operating for close to forty years. Fun Spot America, located in Atlanta, Georgia, initially opened its doors as Dixieland Fun Park back in 1990. In 2017, the park was taken over by the Fun Spot America Theme Parks group based in Orlando. The park will bid farewell to visitors on August 2.
Featuring a total of 14 major rides, including three high-speed roller coasters and a 40-foot go-kart track, the theme park also offers Georgia’s sole legal bungee-jumping tower along with various gentler rides suitable for families and young children.
While the exact reason for the shutdown remains undisclosed by the park’s owners, according to The Street, theme parks with aging attractions often struggle to remain profitable without significant financial investments for maintenance or upgrades.
The management has assured that they will personally contact customers who have booked group or school trips beyond the closure date. Visitors holding gift cards or season passes are advised to utilize them before the park’s final day of operation.
Although the Atlanta location will cease operations, the two other Fun Spot parks in Orlando and Kissimmee will continue to welcome guests. The fate of the current park grounds and the dismantling of the rides are yet to be publicly disclosed.
Joining the ranks of closed theme parks, CEO John Arie Jr. expressed the difficulty in the decision, acknowledging the dedication of the Atlanta team and the support received from the Fayetteville community. The park urged visitors to create final memories and enjoy a last ride before the closure.
