An aviation social media personality tragically lost his life in front of a large audience of over 1,000 followers when his lightweight aircraft crashed and caught fire during a live online broadcast.
Tang Feiji, known for his flying-related content, was streaming live when his dual-rotor aircraft suddenly veered sharply and crashed in Jiange County, central China. Viewers watching the stream frantically urged for emergency assistance to save him, but sadly, Tang, aged 55, succumbed to the impact and was declared deceased at the crash site.
With a significant following of approximately 100,000 users on the Chinese social media platform Douyin, Tang was a popular figure in Guangyuan City, Sichuan Province. Prior to the fatal accident, he had landed briefly to adjust his camera before taking off again, without wearing any protective gear like a helmet or parachute.
In the aftermath of his untimely death, Tang’s livestream account has been set to private, limiting access to his content to existing followers only. Authorities in China are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Reports indicate that Tang had experienced previous crashes resulting from technical malfunctions, including a faulty fuel gauge. He had acquired the aircraft for an estimated £36,500 (CNY 350,000) last year, believing that a pilot’s license was unnecessary for operating such ultralight aircraft. However, aviation experts emphasize the requirement of a license for flying any low-altitude aircraft.
