“Baby Medical Emergency Diverts UK to Spain Flight”

Date:

A Jet2 aircraft en route from the UK to Spain experienced an emergency situation when a baby became unwell during the flight. Air traffic controllers prioritized the landing of the flight after being informed about the infant’s breathing difficulties. This incident occurred shortly after a previous scare where Jet2 passengers flying from Bournemouth to Gran Canaria were redirected to Faro due to reported “smoke in the cabin.”

The emergency unfolded on Jet2 flight EXS2V traveling from London Stansted to Tenerife South. Spanish air traffic controllers were notified by the crew just before landing that urgent attention was required for the baby experiencing respiratory issues. The controllers expedited the landing process while arranging medical assistance at the airport, expressing hopes for the child’s swift recovery.

The aircraft touched down approximately nine minutes ahead of schedule around 2:20 PM on the day of the incident. Details regarding the baby’s condition upon landing and whether the child was taken to a hospital immediately were not immediately available.

In the previous incident involving the flight from Bournemouth, a ‘red code alert’ was triggered at Faro Airport due to reports of smoke in the cabin. Emergency response teams were activated, although the plane landed safely without further complications. The Jet2 Flight LS3643, which had departed from Bournemouth and was bound for Gran Canaria, diverted to Faro where it landed at around 12:25 PM local time. The plane was carrying over 140 passengers.

Following the diversion, a Jet2 spokesperson stated that the decision to land in Faro was a precautionary measure taken by the highly trained crew upon detecting an unusual smell in the cabin. The spokesperson assured that safety was not compromised during the incident, and a standby aircraft would transport passengers from Faro to Gran Canaria to minimize delays, offering apologies for any inconvenience caused.
